Rocca Calascio

Rocca di Calascio is a settlement consisting of a fortress and the adjacent medieval village.
The latter consists of an older upper part, of which only some archaeological remains exist, and a more recent lower part that has been partially restored. On the opposite northeastern slope, towards Campo Imperatore, stands the Renaissance church of Santa Maria della Pietà, which features an octagonal plan.
The Fortress, situated at an altitude of approximately 1,460 meters, is among the highest fortifications in Italy and Europe and is considered one of the symbols of the Abruzzo region. The fortress, centrally located between the Campo Imperatore plateau and the underlying Navelli and Tirino plateaus, is set in a landscape of great value within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park protected area.

Bominaco Castle

Bominaco Castle stands above the complex of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Oratory of San Pellegrino, in a position overlooking the Navelli plateau. The initial structure dates back to the 12th century, but its current appearance results from the destruction in 1423 following the siege led by the condottiero Braccio da Montone.

Piccolomini Castle of Celano

The Piccolomini Castle of Celano is protected by a powerful wall, marked by walkways and bastions; it overlooks the Fucino plain, once a lake, in a majestic and imposing manner. Today, besides being a landscape focal point visible for many kilometers throughout the Fucino district, it has been the seat of the National Museum of Sacred Art of Marsica since 1992. The museum route unfolds on a single floor through 8 exhibition rooms, divided into several thematic sections: sculpture (stone and wood), painting (mural, on canvas, and on panel), and goldsmithing. The splendid works come from all over the Marsica territory and date between the 6th and 18th centuries.
