The splendid Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta dates back to the early 12th century and houses masterpieces such as the 1180 ambo and the abbatial chair. The Oratory of San Pellegrino, rebuilt in its current form in 1263, features a remarkable cycle of frescoes that entirely covers the walls and vault, representing the pinnacle of Abruzzo&#8217;s pictorial decoration from the second half of the 13th century.<br\/>For opening hours and guided tours: 086293764  <\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Church of Santa Maria ad Criptas<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The small Church of Santa Maria ad Criptas is one of the first local examples inspired by Gothic forms.<br\/>The interior follows the Cistercian model with a single nave divided into three bays. The absolute uniqueness of the church lies in the two distinct cycles of frescoes that entirely cover the interior.
