The settlement has linked its history to that of the Barony of Carapelle and the rule of the<br\/>Piccolomini and Medici families. It is considered an important tourist destination for the<br\/>beauty of its historic center and its proximity to the Campo Imperatore plateau. It is part of the<br\/>Most Beautiful Villages in Italy circuit and is one of the finest examples of a &#8220;fortified&#8221; village. The houses, perched on a<br\/>rocky spur, are dominated by the sixteenth-century Palazzo Santucci <\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Capestrano<\/strong><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An ancient fortified village featuring an interesting overlay of medieval and Renaissance architecture and buildings of fine craftsmanship. The historic center is characterized by the imposing presence of the Piccolomini castle, which still represents, despite numerous alterations, one of the most interesting fortified complexes in the region. <\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Aielli \u2013 Borgo Universo<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The village of Aielli is known nationally and internationally not only for the beauty and care of its historic center, but also for the many contemporary artworks that enrich it.
